Hmmm, I don’t know about the rest of you guys, but I am already trying to plan for Christmas & cold weather. Couple of reasons for that. One, I rock at shopping on, um, Christmas Eve, like an hour before stores close (this is a really bad habit!) And, my utility bill triples in the winter, so I have to plan on extra living expenses on top of holiday shopping. And considering that GeeksOnTime still has not paid me, that really throws me off.

Anyway, got a little sidetracked there…sorry about that.  Anyway, there is some info on the Tech Resources page on getting steady or contract work, if that’s your thing. Or, if you want to market your own side business, you can find some additional tips in this post. And if you are in a bind and need to make some cash quickly? Or end up with not as much work as you expect as the holiday season gets closer? Or somebody doesn’t pay you? Or maybe you’re not a tech? Unfortunately, I even know people who have gone to the bank to cash paychecks…and found they couldn’t because that account was empty. So, in that case, read on, then check out Tech Resources and this post.

There is hope, you can make some quick cash if you’re creative, have a few hours each week, or some great combination of the two. For those who want to work steadily through the holiday season, you can always check on getting a second, part time job. People are actually hiring for those right now, especially in retail and restaurants. Don’t think you’re up to cashiering, stocking, or serving? Maybe check your local pizza place to see if they are hiring drivers. People get really generous with tips at Christmas, and a driver who shows up with the food on time and is NICE can really rack up…I’ve actually done this before, and made up to $80 in tips on a 3 hour dinner shift. And, considering that 3/4 of the job is cruising around in your car listening to the radio, it isn’t half bad. And, you can usually make it home before your kids’ bedtime. Be nice when you get to the door, though, people really do appreciate it! If you’re not nice, they don’t tip. And that’s how you make the big bucks in delivery.

OK, so if you wait tables or run pizzas, you walk away with cash every day. But, what if you can’t get a sitter on a regular basis, or have a schedule that keeps you from even having set days you can work? Well, then, it is time to start getting creative. Most cities have a used video/cd/game store in their area. Take some of those cd’s and movies you haven’t used in years and make a couple bucks off those. Video games are usually worth a little more, especially if they are recent. And face it, if you have beaten the game, how much are you really going to play it?

For the really charitable and brave of heart, you could donate the plasma in your blood. You can donate very couple of weeks, and make about $50 each time. Plus, you get that warm fuzzy feeling from helping to save a life somewhere.

Bet you haven’t thought of babysitting since you were a teenager, huh? Especially if you are a single parent. Well, guess what – most parents are a little uncomfortable leaving their kids, especially small children, with the neighborhood teenager. Added bonus: your own child can usually go along to play with the kids you are sitting! Everybody stays happy, kids feel like they get an extra play date & keep each other occupied, which frees you up to kindof keep an eye on things…and parents, depending on where you are located, are usually pretty happy to pay at least $10 to $12 an hour for an adult to do this. Not bad for side cash, especially if you don’t want a regular second job. And, once again, you ar paid cash as soon as you are done.

Can you clean? And I don’t mean your own house, while chasing around after the kids & the dog. Actually, I think that falls into the category of “attempting to clean.” What I really mean, is get a sitter (or make them help, if your kids are old enough to) and clean for other people. Unless you clean commercial offices, you get paid as soon as you are done. You can charge either by the hour or by the square foot. And, it’s been my experience that most people that hire somebody to clean for them actually cleans their house fairly well before that person comes to clean! These people may be exacting, but at least they aren’t usually pigs – they just want somebody to come in an do a really thorough job of cleaning, although they may pick up after themselves pretty well. So, you go clean a house, do a good job, walk away with cash in your pocket.

There are plenty of other possibilities – advertise yourself as a dog walker, an errand runner, a personal assistant, or even advertise to haul around your rake & lawnmower to do yardwork.  Whatever you do though, be nice, do a good job, and profit from it!
