One of the things we have to face as parents, especially when we are single parents, is definitely health issues.  I’ve done a couple of posts about saying no to people when you have too much on your plate already, and not running yourself down.  I don’t know if you have had this additional joy yet, but just wait until you or your kids get sick you miss too much work, and…you guessed it! You just found yourself FIRED for missing too much work. This can be costly, in more ways than one.

This makes the health of single rents and their children that much more important to function normally.  Luckily for us all, I found a quick and easy reference that you can check for some pointers you can apply to your own life. This health blog is definitely right up my alley. You’ve heard me lecture on getting enough rest and taking good care of yourself, and Healthy Fellow encourages the same concept.

And, a couple of other things I may not have really mentioned in the past are that we don’t really take medicine in this house unless it is absolutely necessary. Part of why I like this guy is that there are some really cool alternative therapies posted, many of which can be integrated into your everyday life without costing you any extra money. For example, there is a great post on color therapy. (Did you know my house is painted in shades of blue and green? They make me feel calm and peaceful when I walk into my house. And I swear the blue makes my brain work better…) This stuff really works. And check out the posts on aromatherapy, too. These are very inexpensive, practical ways to keep your stress level down, and keep you at your best.

Just one more thing: we are obviously animal lovers in this house, and have, in fact, worked with some therapy dogs before. This is something that can bring such joy to somebody in a hospital or nursing home, it is unbelievable! And, if you have a pet that is well behaved enough to qualify as a therapy dog, that makes for a great opportunity to take your kids along to volunteer and spread some happiness to some people who desperately need it…and teach your kids how to give of their time. And talk about some good Karma. So do a little extra reading and keep taking care of yourself and you kids. And make that extra effort to stay healthy. It will pay off for everyone!
